Dear Sir/Madam: Everybody who watches television knows what ADs are, one sees lots of them. I must watch some of them more than once to make sure I know what they are selling. Then there are those that I have yet to figure out what the AD has to do with the product. If some of these ADs sell the product then the average Americans IQ is lower than I though. Many of the ADs are much louder than the programs and too many have loud strange music attached. There are even some programs, including news broadcasts, that I think should be listed as commercials with some program included. Many of the car ADs show cars speeding down surface streets with the drivers looking everywhere but where they are going. Some of these cars make weird noises and if I bought one that sounded like that, I would return it. One even shows a boy picking up a man. We really need to show kids what they can do. Don’t we have enough trouble with minors taking the family car? In another they show people how
to destroy a car just for insurance. Do we need to get insurance from a company that shows you how to wreck a car? Has anyone else noticed that they seldom post the price of a new car. They just list the monthly payments in large print and show the downpayment below in small print. I guess they are also shocked by the prices of new cars. Then there are the insurance companies trying to get you to bundle your car and home insurance, at least one that has been cancelling home insurance policies in California. That could make it hard to bundle. Then there are the Accident Lawyers who show you why your car insurance is so expensive. Now there are the political ADs, lots of them currently, with each candidate showing how corrupt the other is. Based on these ADs I am wondering if any are mentally and physically fit to hold any office. Right now, I feel that none of them deserves to be elected to Public Office. The elected people are the people who have turned California into a lawless state. We
need better, but what options do the voters have? Some ADs have clips from movies and TV programs that show crime, gore, and murder as if we did not have enough of that on our streets already. Do we really have to show the public how it is done? I have never seen a gun jump off a couch and shoot anyone, but I have seen several TV shows and movies that show people how it is done. After all, one just needs to turn on the morning and/or evening News to get the same picture. There are several ADs promoting gambling. When I was a boy, betting was only allowed at designated locations, or illegally between people and Cons. I watched two local families go down from betting back then, now they promote it on TV, Cell Phones, and Computers. Gambling can be just as serious as any other disease, and I am not aware of any vaccinations to cure it. Even the different states promote it with Lottery’s. I wonder if this everywhere betting has any impact on the homeless problem. Sincerely, Harry M. Quinn
